Fern, W. Nicholas 76, of Oakland, NJ, died peacefully at home on Feb. 10,2013 surrounded by his loving family, after a short battle with ALS. He was born in Newark, NJ and grew up in Lyndhurst. He attended Teterboro School of Aeronautics and worked as an Aircraft Technician at Teterboro Airport, NJ. Nick received the Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award from the FAA for 50 years of dedicated service in Aviation Safety working for companies such as ITT, Bendix, and Gulf & Western Industries. He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Shirley Rae Curtis Fern of Oakland, their children, Nicholas Fern of Pompton Lakes, his wife Joyce and their two sons, Christopher and Nicholas; Lorraine Barbara of Oakland, her husband Richard and their son John; Daniel Fern of Oakland, his wife Karen and their two sons, William and Bradley; Jennifer Iaci of Montville, her husband Andrew and their two sons, Jack and Max; his cousin Janet Euler of North Arlington. Viewing will be held on Thursday February 14, 2013 from 2-4 & 6-9 PM at Oakland Memorial Home 330 Ramapo valley road Oakland, NJ Cremation will be private.
