Two of my classmates of Ramapo H.S. 1960 and I had attended an Esak house party in the winter of 1964 or 1965 in Chuckanutt. It was a nice party until some guys jumped onto one of my classmates, Dick DeMarco, and his brother Tony naturally came to his rescue. He was too huge to contain in his rage, so I ultimately intervened and restrained him, taking him to the floor. After his finally cooling down a bit, I could feel the blood of a recent knee wound from a car accident on ice open and trickling. When everyone agreed that it would be OK to let him up, I released him. His hyper activity continued!!!
It’s too bad I could not attend the services to tell this tale directly – I had a doctor’s appointment today in Moorestown, NJ. I always heard nice stories about the Esak’s!!
Sincerely,
Tony Martucci

I am so sorry to hear of Rick's passing. While I knew Rick because Donna was my friend and I spent a lot of time at 50 Chuckanutt, it is his kindness and quick smile that is so memorable to this day. Pool party, anyone? Such good times we had. My condolences to the whole family on losing a wonderful brother, father, uncle and friend.

We see you Rick. With open smile and joyful eyes, a young teen and fast runner for IHHS (“ Esak, Ricky Esak “) You embodied the consummate colleague and ally. We will remember your way of expression, your nonjudgmental good nature, your curiosity, and kindness. and the way you would consider things with such wonder.
So much of this, having to do with your family , who have been respected for years in this community.
May you be in bliss and still have that smile on your beautiful face.

I doubt there is anyone who grew up in Oakland who can't bring to mind Ricky's gracious smile and persona. Like his parents before him, he brought so much to our town and sense of community. My sincere sympathies to his family and all his loved ones.
