Edward T. Ackerly, Sr., of Oakland NJ, passed away April 15th, at Valley Hospital, Ridgewood.
Born in Jersey City, NJ, to George Ackerly and Mamie (Kurczewski), he was 86 years old.
Beloved husband to Ruth (Kistner), they were married for 60 years.
He is predeceased by his wife, Ruth, son, Guy Richard and grandson, Guy Christopher, along with 4 sisters and 2 brothers.
He leaves behind his children, Edward Jr. (Cheryl) and John (Kathy).
Loving Grandfather to Steven, Guy, Graham, Craig and Erin.
He was a Veteran of the US Army and served as an Infantryman.
He had a 36-year management career at Community Chevrolet before retiring.
His current position as an Oakland Crossing Guard gave him a meaningful purpose and he enjoyed the many friends he made with the families and the students.
He was a former member of the Oakland First Aid Squad, The Knights of Columbus and previously a baseball coach at the Oakland Recreation Field.
He enjoyed travel, fishing and was an avid sports enthusiast.
He loved the time he spent with family and friends. He is remembered as a kind, loving, social, happy person, who always had a smile on his face.
He will be missed by many.
