So sorry to hear of Ed's passing. I served with him on the Oakland First Aid Squad, many years ago. May God bless him and comfort his family during this difficult time.

Dear Ackerly Family,
I am very saddened to learn of Ed's death. He was my friend from OLPH. I missed his presence after Ruth died but knew I could always find his broad smile and kind words at Manito and Monhegon. God bless him for all that he meant to so many - children and adults. May he find perpetual peace in Heaven with Ruth and those he loved who left this world before him.

I am very sad to hear this news. He was always a constant on the corner to count on for a smile & a wave. I will miss having talks with him on my walks & run ins at Stop N Shop. The corner of Manito & Monhegan will be a lot less brigher without him. May his Family know how much our community will miss him!

I am so saddened to hear this news. I had short chats with Ed every day when I walked past his station as a crossing guard. He would see me from afar and get out of his car, with his stop sign and ready stop traffic for me to cross. Always a smile and a pleasant greeting. And, if I was late, he would let me know!! God rest his soul. I shall miss him.
To his family, may your wonderful memories of this good man bring you comfort at this time.

Ed crossed all 3 of my boys safely to school. We live on Manito and Ed has been a fixture on our corner since my oldest started kindergarten ( he is 17 now). I will miss our chats on the corner and of course his smile and wave. May he Rest In Peace.

Eddie was a special man who always made me smile. His patience and sense of humor and positive personality was what we all loved about him. I enjoyed our daily chats when I walked my kids to and from Manito.
He was part of my routine for over a decade, even when my kids grew older I would enjoy chatting with Eddie at the corner of Manito. He was a kind gentle man who will be missed by so many. My condolences to his family and friends.
Rest in peace my friend,

It is hard to believe that he is not here. It was a comfort I always had knowing at any moment I could call him and we would talk. He was a dear friend to me. He made you feel loved and important, that was his gift. He was a gift to everyone because he went out of his way to cheer you up & put a smile on your face. He always knew when you were down or troubled. Believe me you couldn't get away with saying everything was fine because he knew. He was smart, he knew a lot about everything. He had lived through a lot but it never seemed to make him negative. Quite the contrary, he saw the silver lining in a lot and in a lot of people. He always did the right thing and he always would be there for anyone. You say the word and he was ready. He was an angel amongst us and I'm grateful we became friends. He has left and I'm going to miss him terribly but as time passes I will think of all the ways he would me make me smile. All the funny phrases he would say and the smile that he had ready for everyone. He really invested his time in people and getting to know them. Rest In Peace our sweet friend Ed!

Although meeting Ed and his wife was brief, It was during a snow storm, and his son John and I worked out together at BG Fitness, in Hawthorne. Due to bad weather I gave John a ride to his parents home in Oakland, since I had 4wd. I did go in to meet his family, Mom and Dad. They were both really friendly and I was glad to have met them. They said I could hang out there if I wished, but I figured if I did I would be stuck there as the roads got worse. Well I wish I could of got to know them even more. And He raised a great son and feel honored to have met him in my life.

I will miss Mr. Ed terribly...During my occasional visits, he would be so excited when I brought him a pumpkin bread. It was such a small token of my appreciation of him as a co-worker crossing guard as well as a good friend. Rest in peace, Debra Patterson
