Obituary of Christine Marie Mulcahy

Christine Mulcahy (nee Dunleavy), age 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 21, 2024. Christine was born and raised in Washington Heights with her parents, Michael and Elsie (nee Gilchrist) Dunleavy. She grew up with her seven siblings: James, Elsie, Michael, Thomas, Binnie, Sheila, and Pat. She attended St. Catherine’s Grammar School in Manhattan and St. Catherine’s Academy in the Bronx, graduating in 1955. Then, she went to work at Young and Rubicam, leaving in 1959 to raise her family. She married the love of her life, Bill, in 1958 and went on to raise her 4 sons Michael, Billy, Eddie, and Timmy.
The family moved from Wahington Heights in 1971 and settled in Oakland, NJ. Christine spent her time raising 4 boys and volunteering at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Grammar School. She held many titles at OLPH including gym teacher, girl’s volleyball, basketball, and softball coach before entering the nursing program at Bergen Community College. Christine graduated second in her class in 1979 at 42 yrs old. After passing the state boards to become an RN, she began her career at Wayne General Hospital that same year. After leaving Wayne General Christine entered Hospice nursing for 2 years before moving to Oakland Care Center, as a Nurse Manager, where she remained until retiring in 2010 after more than 30 years in the nursing field.
Christine is survived by her husband of 66 years William, and her 4 sons Michael (Mary), William (Alicia), Edward (Mimi) and Timothy (Jeanine); 6 grandchildren Michael (Christina), Kevin, Liam, Brendan, Aidan and Aileen. As well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. She is predeceased by her parents Michael and Elsie Dunleavy, Mother-in-law Elizabeth Mulcahy; Siblings – James, Michael, Elsie and Binnie; Brothers-in-law – George and James Mulcahy, Bob Donohue, Artie Colwell, Bob Looes; Sisters-in-law – Elizabeth Dunleavy, Dorothy and Joni Mulcahy.
