Marie J. Moore

Marie J. Moore, a long-term resident of Oakland, passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2024. Born in Newark, Marie earned a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in education from William Paterson University. Marie was an accomplished student and was selected to be a member of Kappa Delta Pi, the national honor society in education. During her career, Marie taught in elementary, middle, and high schools in both regular and special education programs. As a reading specialist, she helped develop the reading curriculum for Oakland Public Schools. She completed her career as an English teacher at Bogota High School.

Marie was a parishioner at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Oakland and an active member of the Oakland Senior Center. She had great affection for her state, her hometown, and loved the New Jersey shore. She was an informed, active, and engaged citizen. She served as the Chairwoman of the Friends of Ramapo College of New Jersey, the Juvenile Conference Committee in Oakland, and on the board for the Oakland Public Library. 

Marie was a life-long learner with many interests. She enjoyed cooking, listening to music, dancing, and exploring new places. Throughout her life, she remained an avid reader. She always loved the chance to meet new people and to make new friends. Marie’s door and heart were always open to others. Marie will be remembered for her kindness, courage, and her ability to always find the best in others. Above all, she loved everyone in her family deeply and her spirit inspired everyone she touched.

Marie is predeceased by her husband, Louis B. Moore, Jr. She is survived by her son Louis and his wife Lynn and her daughter Sharon Marie Moore-Spinnler and grandchildren Zoie Marie Spinnler, Robert Spinnler, Caroline Marie Moore, Catherine Moore, and Anthony Moore. 

Relatives and friends may visit the Oakland Memorial Home at 330 Ramapo Valley Road Oakland, N.J. on Saturday, February 10 from 9:30-10:30 AM to pay their respects. A memorial Mass will follow at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 24 Purdue Ave., Oakland, N.J, at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 10. For condolences, information, and directions please visit the Oakland Memorial Home at this link.
