Lou Jane Esther Bickert
December 6th, 1925 – December 23rd, 2023
Bickert, Lou Jane Esther
(Jarvis)
Age 98 on Saturday, December 23rd, 2023 of Oakland, New Jersey
Lou Jane was the loving wife of William E. Bickert of Oakland, New Jersey and beloved mother of Janie (John) Morzenti of Devon PA, William (Nancy) Bickert Jr of Coronado CA, Virginia (Tom) Weber of Bethel Park PA, and Linda (Paul) Higgins of Roswell GA. She was adored as grandmother of eleven (11); and great-grandmother of seventeen (17). She was the daughter of the late Anthony Woodward and Mary (Wilson) Jarvis from Brentwood PA, sister of the late Harlan Jarvis and Marian Jarvis, and a loving aunt and sister-in-law.
Lou Jane grew up in Brentwood, PA. She loved music, and sat first chair clarinet for the All State Pennsylvania High School Band before graduating from Baldwin High School in 1944. After high school, her precise printing and beautiful cursive was put to good use as she worked as a draftsman at Pittsburgh Electric Power and Light Company in the Oliver Building. Her writing continued throughout her life in the forms of poetry, journaling, and thoughtfully documenting family trips and milestones.
She married William Bickert on June 16th, 1951, and after many moves (typical of a Navy and airline wife) they settled in Oakland, NJ for 58 years. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Women’s Auxiliary at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ, and The Order of the Eastern Star. In addition to the loving care that she gave her family, she was a devoted caregiver to her sister Marian. Her personality and talents were well-rounded, as her athleticism shined from the ski slopes to the baseball diamond. This stood in charming contrast to her interior decorating and sewing skills. Her cooking was legendary among her family and she created fond memories with everything she made- from ornate holiday meals for over 20 people, to her simple late-night snacks.
