Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary Elizabeth Fleisch, Nee Hornak, 96 passed away peacefully at Oakland Care and Rehabilitation Centre with the participation of Valley Hospice. She was born in Passaic NJ. She resided in Garfield, NJ until she married Ernest Fleisch in 1950 and moved to his family home in Clifton where they raised 3 children. In 1962, they built a home in Franklin Lakes, NJ and moved. This was their new beginning! They joined The Indian Trail Club and the family actively participated in many sport and social functions particularly weekly Barbecues in the picnic grove. They became extremely involved in the building of most Blessed Sacrament School and actively participated in the ground-breaking ceremony and building of a new church. Ernest predeceased her suddenly in 1982. Shortly after, Mary responded to an add looking for retired nurses to be employed at Oakland Care Center. She responded and shortly became the evening supervisor. At that time, the USA began to hire the nurses from overseas and many came to OCC. They became her new family. She mentored numerous nurses and their families and invited them into her home when they became new mothers to infants and taught them to care for the babies. Mary went to nursing school St. Mary’s Hospital in Passaic and worked in the maternity unit until she graduated in 1948. She was in the navy on inactive duty. As of now she has been in touch with most of them and they are part of our extended family. Many of them are her godchildren! Mary is survived by 3 children: Patti and son William, Rob and step daughters Kendra and Lisa and John. She has 1 grandson and 7 step grandchildren. Funeral Liturgy, Saturday April 15th 2023 at 12 noon at Immaculate Conception Church, 900 Darlington Ave, Mahwah NJ.
