Audrey Dolores (Goodwin) Jeffery, 98, of Oakland, New Jersey passed away on December 27, 2022. She was born in Rochester, New York to Alice and John Goodwin.
Audrey became a registered nurse after obtaining her degree from St. Mary’s Hospital Nursing School in Rochester, New York. She served with the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps and worked as a hospital nurse, private nurse, and in a doctor’s office. She retired from nursing in 1959 when she married Raymond E. Jeffery and they moved to Oakland, New Jersey in 1961, where she remained for the rest of her life. Audrey and Raymond raised their three children together until his passing in 1979.
Audrey was a parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and was a member of the Parish Council and Rosary Altar Society for several years. She volunteered at OLPH School as a substitute nurse, cafeteria worker, and school mini-bus driver. Audrey also delivered Meals-On-Wheels within the community.
Being an avid reader, Audrey visited the library on a regular basis and created a long list of all the books she had read. She could be seen taking her daily walks in the neighborhood and continued to do so into her early nineties. She also enjoyed sitting on her front porch and doing crossword puzzles.
Audrey is survived by her daughter Mary Alice and husband Timothy Murphy of Hewitt, New Jersey, her son Raymond Jeffery III of Warwick, New York, her daughter Sheila Pierce of Sagamore Beach, Massachusetts, her granddaughters Sarah and Rachel Murphy and many nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Patricia Dietz and Joyce Bolon, and son-in-law Jonathan Pierce.
The family of Audrey Jeffery will be forever grateful for the kindness and caring of her neighbors who kept a watchful eye and were always willing to help her in her time of need. The family also thanks Audrey’s private aides over the years for providing exceptional care for Audrey and peace of mind for her family.
