Please share a memory of Roman to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Roman Kapturkiewicz passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 16th 2022 at the age of 73, in his hometown of Oakland New Jersey.
Roman graduated from Rzeszow Technical High School in 1974 with a concentration in radio and electronics. In 1979 he received his Ph D in automatic electronic control systems and television, radio broadcasting and acoustic systems. Roman had a military career in Poland that spanned 10 years.
After he completed his service he oversaw the audio visual design and maintenance of the amphitheater at the University of Agriculture in Rezsoz, Poland. He also worked as an assistant professor at the same university
Roman emigrated to the United States in the 80’s from Poland to create a better future for not only himself but his future wife Wieslawa "Kasia" Jedrek. With nothing but a suitcase with a few possessions, twenty dollars, and a lot of courage he set out to create a new life for himself. He was fiercely independent and took pride in working hard to support his family. In the beginning no job was below him and he often took on multiple jobs at once.
He had a 23 year career as a design and service engineer at the Micron Instrument Company. He also worked as an imaging systems engineer for them.
Roman specialized in developing infrared thermometers and thermographic equipment. He was especially proud of developing products for Nasa. He retired at the age of 62.
Roman had a great love of the arts, nature, architecture, and history. He was fluent in not only Polish and English but also Russian, German, and Slovak. His children in turn grew to love and appreciate the arts, history, and culture of not only their own heritage but that of others.
Roman suffered from dementia the last few years of his life. It is a terrible disease that takes away so much from a person. Despite this Roman held onto a piece of himself until the very end. Specifically his faith in God, his love of attending Sunday mass, and his love of the Church of The Most Blessed sacrament.
Roman is survived by his wife Wieslawa, daughters Katherine, Ashley, and Michelle, son-in-law Brian, grandchildren Johanna and Timothy, and siblings Andrzej and Magda.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation towards Roman’s memorial fund.
