Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
William Harold Herbst passed away on February 21st. He was surrounded by his loving family, his wife Susanne, his son Bill Herbst, his daughter Kristen Ahne, his daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Mario Passos, and his pastor Courtney Smith of Messiah Lutheran Church. He will be missed by all, including his brother Robert Herbst and wife Lorraine, his daughter-in-law Theresa Herbst, his son-in-law Mike Ahne, his grandchildren Bill, Emma, Kayla, Vincent, Natalie, and Nicholas, his stepson Chuck and stepson Chris and his wife Sabita, and his nieces and nephews.
Bill led a full life in his 81 years. He took over the family business Paterson Floor Company and was well known for his craftsmanship and personal service. He served in the National Guard and was there for the Newark riots. He was a volunteer fireman like his father and passed on this passion to his son and grandson. He was a faithful Christian and was active in church where he served on the council, cooked pancakes for Easter breakfast, and cooked German specialties for the Oktoberfest. Bill will be remembered for his sense of humor, gift for gab, his love for his family, friends, and dog Angel, and his joy for cooking and food.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
