Obituary of Marie J Culosi

MARIE JOSEPHINE QUARTARARO CULOSI, Age 101 – Marie passed away peacefully at home on January 23, 2022, in Mahwah, NJ. Marie was born in New York, NY, to Sebastianna and Peter Quartararo on February 7, 1920. She was united in marriage to Frank Culosi on September 29, 1940, at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in New York City. She went to high school at the Fashion Institute of America, worked in the garment industry as a talented seamstress/sample-maker and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, working for various prestigious clothing companies such as Christian Dior. In 1960, Marie and Frank moved to Demarest, NJ, where they were members of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church. She was a devout Catholic who contributed her time and talents to her parishes. Marie also enjoyed dancing, traveling, and celebrating life with great food with her children, grandchildren, siblings and friends. She was also an active member of the Demarest Senior Citizens Club. Marie is survived by her son, Salvatore Culosi (Anita) of Annandale, VA, her daughter, Johanna Dolecki (Kenneth) of Oakland, NJ, grandchildren: Constance Gulley (Steve), Cynthia Sauer, Christopher Culosi and Jennifer Dolecki-Smith (Brad), and great-grandchildren: Victoria Goldberg (Zach), Stephanie Martin (Alec), Jennifer Gulley, Christopher Sauer, Michael Sauer, Matthew Sauer, Alexandra Sauer, Nayanna Willa-Grace Smith and Grady Bucken Smith, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Frank, with whom she shared a wonderful marriage of 71 years, her parents, Sebastianna and Peter, her grandson, Dr. Salvatore J. Culosi and her siblings, Philip Quartararo, Ignatious Quartararo, Salvatore Quartararo, Liberio Quartararo and Grace Toscano. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help R.C. Church, 25 Purdue Avenue, Oakland, NJ, on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at 10:30 A.M., with the Reverend Thomas P. Lipnicki officiating. Entombment will follow at Hackensack Cemetery, 289 Hackensack Avenue, Hackensack, NJ. Visitation will be held at Oakland Memorial Home, 330 Ramapo Valley Road, Oakland, NJ, Monday, January 31, 2022, from 4 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Oakland Memorial Home will be handling all funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: National Processing Center, Alzheimer’s Association, P.O.
