Obituary of Joyce E. Maresca

On Thursday, Dec. 30, Joyce “Toot, Tutti Frutti” Maresca, 86, of Oakland, N.J. passed away peacefully, although just as she wanted it – her life was anything but. Raised an only child by the late Walter “Jess” and Alice Garlick, in Paterson, NJ, Joyce was determined to have a family that could fill every inch of her home. With enough children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to fill the entire N.Y. Giants roster, she more than accomplished this. (Although unfortunately for her beloved husband of 61 years, Louis, a lifelong Giants fan, none of them were ever good enough to make the team). Joyce was a nurse for over 40 years, working first in Pediatrics and then moving on to Labor & Delivery at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center. She ended her career as a case manager for high risk obstetrical patients. She loved her job, enjoyed reading, traveling, spending summers at the Jersey Shore, gardening (which included picking up rocks and sticks), and getting together with family for every and any reason. Joyce is survived by her six children; Michele Maresca, Patrice Torino & husband Don, Luanne O'Hanlon & husband Tom, Louis Maresca III & wife Melissa, James Maresca & wife Pattie, and Kristin Carroll & husband Kevin, her grandchildren; T.J. O’Hanlon & wife Jackie, Lauren Finnegan & husband James, Matthew Torino, Michael Torino and wife Ashley, Jake Maresca and fiancé Katie, Kelli O’Hanlon and fiancé Rob, Kiersten Maresca, Victoria Maresca, Connor O’Hanlon and fiancé Kayla, Kelsey Carroll and fiancé Adam, Elyse Maresca, Nicolas Carroll, and Lucas Maresca, and great-grandchildren; Logan & Keeley Finnegan, Jameson & Axel O’Hanlon and Theodora Torino. She was predeceased by her husband Louis Maresca Jr. and granddaughter Paige Maresca. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association. Attendees to the visitation and mass are asked to come in bright colors (especially her favorites, pink and teal) to celebrate a life well-lived.
