Please share a memory of MaryAnn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother Mary Ann Martino, age 77, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2021 in Oakland, NJ surrounded by her loving family. The oldest of three children, "Cookie" was born in the Bronx, New York to John and Mildred Cappelli (nee Lopilato). She graduated from James Monroe High School in 1962 and spent her early adult years working in New York City, loving and reveling in the boundless energy of her favorite place in the world. She later married and raised a family in Northern New Jersey, where she lived out the rest of her years. As a dedicated clerk in the Health Information field at Pascack Valley Hospital and later Hackensack University Medical Center, not only was she valued as an employee but loved and cherished for the lively and amazing person she was. Even after retiring, Mary Ann kept busy as a lunch aide at her local grade school Honiss Elementary in Dumont. She loved being around children and joyfully shared anecdotes of her experiences with them daily. For those that knew her, Mary Ann was funny, compassionate, fiery, empathetic, fiercely protective, and loving. The love she had to give was endless and she will be missed forever. She is survived by her beloved husband of over 30 years, Ronald Martino, son John David and his wife Nina, daughter Melissa Marie and her husband Michael, son Daniel Joseph and his fianceé Megan, brother John and his wife Donna, and sister Delores and her husband Alexander. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren Gianna, Téa, Michael, and Jolie. They will always remember her as their playful, energetic, and devoted “Nana.” To her nieces and nephews, she was their one and only “Aunt Cookie” who thought of everybody else before herself. And to her cousins, she was someone who was always there in both times of joy and times of tragedy. A private memorial service will be held at Oakland Memorial Home, 330 Ramapo Valley Road, Oakland, NJ on Thursday December 30 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A private Catholic Mass will be offered at St. Mary’s Church in Pompton Lakes, 17 Pompton Ave, Pompton Lakes, NJ at 11:30 a.m. on Friday December 31, 2021. In lieu of flowers, her family requests you make a donation in Mary Ann’s name to the Oakland Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, whose compassion and loving care in her final days was simply tremendous.
