Joe was born in Staten Island, New York, to Martin and Katherine on March 26, 1961. He went to high school at Monsignor Farrell High School in Staten Island, and graduated in 1979. He received his Associate degree in 1982 in Applied Science, with a major in Agriculture at SUNY Farmingdale. His desire was to work with animals and be a veterinarian. However, after working on several home projects for his family and others in the neighborhood, he realized he wanted to change direction and decided to pursue a degree in construction management at Texas A&M University, where he completed his degree in 1987. Upon graduation, he worked on several jobs in heavy construction between Boston and Baltimore.
Joe was relentless in pursuing a career with Turner Construction Company. He landed his first job with Turner in 1994 where he was a superintendent to build the United States Tennis Association’s new Arthur Ashe tennis stadium, and he then went on to build projects for JetBlue and Korean Air at JFK airport. In addition, he was an estimator for the new Yankee Stadium, and the project supervisor for the Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) Cancer Center, Mortimer B. Zuckerman research center. He also worked on the center for stem cell biology building for MSK and was the project manager for the Memorial Sloan Kettering outpatient facility in Monmouth, New Jersey.
Joe loved the outdoors, whether scuba diving with his BFF in Belize, skiing in Vermont, vacationing in Aruba, biking Martha’s Vineyard, chasing the waves at the Jersey shore, or being the Master of Ceremonies at the Outer Banks Olympics, Joe’s true passion was his entire family. He was a devoted husband to his wife, and was a loving father to his children, caring brother and an amazing uncle to his nieces and nephews. He was an active community member in the school system, volunteering his time on the school board and a number of fundraising activities.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia, son, Ryan, daughter, Jamie, siblings Martin, Susan and her husband Marc, Stephen and his wife Karen. Joe has 8 nieces and nephews and one great nephew.
