Obituary of Ann Eva Wray

Ann Eva (Annie) Wray, 19, of Oakland, NJ, passed away of March 13, 2020 in North Carolina. Ann grew up in Oakland and graduated from Indian Hills High School in 2018. She played goalie as a member of the girls varsity soccer team and was a member and captain of the girls varsity lacrosse team. In addition to sports, Ann participated in clubs and activities including SADD and French Club at Indian Hills. She played club soccer with the RYSA Wildcats and club lacrosse with the Stick-to-Stick and BBL North teams. She was a member of Oakland Girl Scout Troop 305, earning her Silver Award for her efforts to support the Ponds Church Food Pantry and participated in many community service activities with her troop. Ann was also a member of Ponds Reformed Church and a member of the youth group. Through the youth group she participated in additional community service and outreach programs and attended annual mission trips to assist those in less fortunate circumstances. Ann attended the University of Mount Olive in Mount Olive, North Carolina until the time of her passing. She was a member of the women's lacrosse team, starting on defense for the team and intended to major in business/agri-business. Beyond her love of sports, she was passionate about her friends, the environment, spending time at the beach or hiking, and attending the Lollapalooza music festival each year. Ann is survived by her parents, Laura and John Wray, her brother Ken, and her maternal grandparents, Ruth and Norman McGowan. She is also survived by her aunt, Maureen Wray, cousins Spencer Iasilli and Cory Wray and several other second and third cousins. She is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Robert and Ann Wray, and her uncles Kenneth McGowan and Bobby Wray. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the countless friends and family members who have been by our side or are keeping us in their prayers at this time. We are truly thankful. Unfortunately, due to the current state of emergency across the country, all services this week will be private for immediate family only. We will have a Memorial Celebration of Life get-together at a future date when all who know and love Annie can safely participate.
