Obituary of William Tully

William Tully 11/19/31 to 12/22/19 William Tully, 88, of Oakland, New Jersey passed away Sunday December 22, 2019 surrounded by his adoring family. Bill was born in Clifton, NJ to Francis and Mary Tully. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Tully. Bill (aka Tully, Wild Willy, Poppo) married his sweetheart Lenore (Lenni) Mendelsohn on New Year’s Eve and this year they will be celebrating their 60th anniversary together in Heaven. We hope they will be dancing in the sky and partying with all their lifelong friends. Bill worked at Brevel Motors in Carlstadt, NJ for over 30 years. He then became a short-order cook until he retired. Bill loved cooking for his family and was a talented home chef. Bill was an avid Giants fan and a season ticket holder for over 40 years. He loved to tailgate and was in charge of cooking the veal marsala for one tailgate each season. His sons-in-law, Jason Duncan and Tom Caro, were honored to join the tailgate crowd for several seasons until Bill started watching the games in the comfort of his living room every week. Besides watching the Giants, Bill loved reading the newspaper from cover to cover every day and keeping up on national news. He never missed his favorite soap opera, The Young and the Restless, and enjoyed listening to his favorite music on YouTube. Bill was a hard-working dad to his daughters, Lisa Duncan and Roni Caro. He impressed his family with his ability to talk intelligently about any topic with anyone. He was so happy being Pop-Pop to his five grandchildren Jared, Larissa, Rachel, Luke and LJ. They brought him endless joy and kept him young. This past week, his family gathered at the hospital laughing, crying and sharing stories about this much loved and admired man. He is already greatly missed and will continue to guide his family with his wisdom, humor and level-headed advice. Viewing will be Thursday December 26, 2019 from 4 to 8 pm at the Oakland Memorial Home, 330 Ramapo Valley Road, Oakland, NJ. The funeral service will be held at 10:45 am on Friday December 27, 2019 at the Garden Of Memories Mausoleum, 300 Soldier Hill Road, Washington Township, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Oakland First Aid Squad, PO Box 5, Oakland, NJ 07436.
