Obituary of Donald R. Thulin

Thulin, Donald R. 74, of Lake Erskine, Ringwood passed away peacefully on June 18, 2012 at The Valley Hospital with his loving family at his side. Don was born on April 23, 1938 in Paterson, New Jersey to Gustave Anthonis and Stella Krakow. After the death of his father when he was a small child and his mother's remarriage he was adopted and raised by Herbert Olaf Thulin. He was raised and educated in Glen Rock, NJ until June 1954 at which point he moved to Erskine Lakes, Ringwood and attended and graduated Butler High School in 1957. During high school he worked part time at the A&P in Pompton Lakes. He attended McAllister's School in New York and graduated in 1958. He worked at various Funeral homes in Hoboken, Clifton and Red Bank NJ until 1962. He married the love of his life, Loretta Mae Gasparino, in September of 1962 and was so looking forward to celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary this coming September. He worked at Thulin's Cupsaw Market until 1973, owned and operated Thulin's Beachfront Store, Lake Erskine from 1973 thru 1982 and owned and operated S. Gasparino Roofing and Sheet Metal, Brooklyn, NY from 1980 until his retirement in 2000. Don was a member of Ringwood Board of Education from 1970 - 1973 and was also very involved with Cub Scout Pack 340. He was a lifelong member of the Erskine Lakes Property Owners Association, who just last week bestowed him with the honor of Man of the Year. He was a member of the Little Beach Men's Club and the ELPOA Membership Committee since 2005. He was a parishioner of St. Catherine of Bologna Church in Ringwood. He has been a member of Clifton Lodge #203 F&AM since June 1965. Don was predeceased by his parents, his brother Robert Thulin and his beloved son Donald R. Thulin Jr. He leaves his cherished wife Loretta, his loving daughter and son-in-law Jeannine & John Guarillio of Howell, NJ and his precious grandchildren Jeannette and Steven Thulin of Walpole, MA and Sarah and Laura Guarillio of Howell, NJ as well as his caring sister-in-law Jeannette Gasparino of Brooklyn, NY and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral departing the Oakland Memorial Home 330 Ramapo Valley Road Oakland on Friday June 22, 2012 at 10:30 AM for an 11 AM Funeral Liturgy at St. Catherine's of Bologna R.C. Church Ringwood, NJ. Cremation will be private. Relatives and friends may visit the Funeral Home on Thursday June 21, 2012 from 4 to 8PM.
