John F. Steffich, 82, a longtime resident of Cupsaw Lake in Ringwood, New Jersey, passed away at his home on August 9, 2014, with his devoted wife Pat at his side. John was born on May 17, 1932 in Jersey City, New Jersey the son of Frank and Catherine Taraboch Steffich. John spent his childhood in Hoboken and was a proud graduate of St. Peter's Preparatory High School in Jersey City. After spending four years in the U.S. Navy, John earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Montclair State University, where he met his wife of 55 years, Patricia Oplinus Steffich.
John retired after spending many years in the pharmaceutical and laboratory services industry. In his retirement, what John enjoyed most was traveling with Pat and supporting his seven grandchildren in all of their many activities. Pop-Pop was truly their number one fan and loved all of them dearly.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by his three daughters - Mary Kay Duus (Jeff) of Brookfield, CT, Suellen Rizzo of Jamestown, RI and Joanne Carlon (Michael) of Pompton Plains, NJ and his grandchildren - Emily and James Duus, Timothy and Madeline Rizzo and Michael, Abigail and Andrew Carlon. John is also survived by his brother Frank and his wife Mary Lou and their four children.
A service celebrating John's life will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, 2014 at the Oakland Memorial Home, 330 Ramapo Valley Road, Oakland, New Jersey.
